Mangalore, Aug 25: In what can be called a retrospection of sorts of the events of the past one-and-a-half years, Gopal Hosur, IGP, Western Range, shared his experiences over tea with mediapersons from around the city here on Wednesday August 25.
Hosur, who will assume office of the additional commissioner of police (law and order), Bangalore, towards the end of this week, said that he would fondly remember the city for its cultural richness and diversity. He especially recalled the yakshagana programmes he attended during his tenure and said that they were experiences that he would cherish.
Referring to the state of the police department in the city, he expressed his happiness over the establishment of the police commissionerate which would bring in qualitative changes in the next two years. However, he lamented that police quarters are still not up to the mark and a lot has to be done to cater to the needs of the police personnel.
He also pointed out that last year as many as 39 cases of communal violence had been reported whereas in the last eight months the number has come down to nil. This is a reflection of the police department's efficiency in maintaining law and order, he added.
Speaking on Naxal-related problems in the coastal area, he acknowledged the support rendered by DGP Ajay Kumar Singh in the matter and urged the public to join hands in curbing the problem.
Summing up his experiences during his service as IGP, he said that it was a mixed bag, with both success and failures marking his journey. The Timappa Nayak murder case and Meera Balakrishna Sullia case and others could not be solved, while problems like those in communally sensitive Ullal were taken care of in no time, he said.
He also praised the media and expressed his satisfaction over the latter's support to the administration at various times.
