Mangaluru, Jun 15: The high court has expressed strong resentment at the failure of the city corporation here to follow orders of the court as far as solid waste disposal is concerned. Therefore, it has advised the state government to seriously consider superseding the corporation.

A public interest litigation filed by Karnataka State Legal Services Authority came up for hearing before a division bench of the high court presided over by Chief Justice A S Oka on Monday June 14. The bench, on this occasion, went through the interim report submitted on behalf of the corporation. It wondered why none of the orders of the court have been obeyed and wanted to know whether the court orders have any value or not. It said that the attitude of the city corporation had frustrated the court.

It orally said that the state government should seriously think in terms of superseding the city corporation. It also ordered the government to file a report about the fire accident that occurred at the landfill site, before adjourning the hearing to June 21.

Advocate Sridhar Prabhu, appearing on behalf of the Legal Service Authority, said that the high court has been issuing instructions to the city corporation from time to time on the issue of disbursement of compensation to affected families, implementation of solid waste management act 2016 etc. He drew the attention of the court to the fact that the corporation has not been following the court orders and had not filed a report on the fire accident at the landfill site so far.
