Udupi, Sep 8: Guruvandana programme was held at the St Joseph Aided Higher Primary School, Belman here, recently.

St Joseph Church parish priest Fr Lawrence B D'Souza presided.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the teachers enjoy the highest respevct in society as they inculcate in students lofty ideals and provide proper guidance for the overall development of students. He appreciated the tradition followed by the school of teachers celebrating children's day and children celebrating teachers' day, he said.

In-charge headmistress Severin Mendonca appreciated the efforts of student in organizing the programme.

Student leader Ashish Acharya gave away prizes to the teachers who won in the competitions organized as part of Teachers' day. Mahima spoke about the importance of the day.

Retired teacher Marcelline Saldanha, teachers Vincent Pinto, Juliana Moras and Lily D'Souza, honorary teacher Lavina Pinto, anganwady teacher Joyce and physical education teacher Harshendra Kumar Jain among others were present.
