Chikkaballapur, Jul l10: An eighth standard student was allegedly raped by a man from Dibburhalli village near Sidlaghatta in the district recently.

The accused has been identified as Santosh (37) from the same village. It is said that he had recorded a conversation he had with the girl in the past, and coerced the girl into cooperating with him by threatening to make the said conversation public.

The girl had informed about the rape to her parents but Santosh and his family members had threatened the aggrieved family against filing police complaint. They also held a meeting of village elders to strike a compromise.

After the staff of the women and child welfare department and women's counselling centre came to know about the matter, the girl was sent to the shelter for the girls. The officials of the department filed a complaint against Santosh. Santosh is absconding and Dibburhalli police are trying to find his whereabouts.
