Kalasa, Jul 10: Snehalaya Charitable Trust constructed a house for a breadwinner's family struggling for livelihood after meeting with an accident six years ago and losing strength below his waist.

Kalasa resident Prashanth Tauro working as an electrician had lost control of his body below his waist and was in deep distress after meeting with a road accident six years ago.

Snehalaya constructed a house for the shelterless family and on Wednesday July 7 handed it over to Prashanth Tauro.

Kalasa first Grade College principal Vinay Kumar Shetty who handed over custody of the house said that the noble work by the trust towards the poor and the destitute is worth commending. “There is no work as sacred as this,” he said.

Kalasa police station ASI, Dr Mohan Rajanna said that being a support to the family in difficulty is humanity. “Human values of realising the pain of the people in distress, coming to Kalasa from Mangaluru, constructing a house and bringing smiles on the faces of the family are praiseworthy.”

Snehalaya Charitable Trust head Joseph Crasta said that his organization started in 2009 has provided shelter to 300 people suffering from mental illness and the destitute. “We construct houses identifying those facing acute poverty. We supply meals to Government Wenlock Hospital. The work has been possible with help from donors. We are pleased with such work,” he said.

Fr Francis, trustee Jeo D’Silva, JCI former president K C Mahesh, Samse gram panchayat member Manjunath, panchayat officer Santhosh, Prakash Pinto Bondel, Olivia Crasta and others were present.
