Byndoor: Free Covid vaccination campaign for families of Endosulfan victims held

Byndoor, Jul 12: A free Covid vaccine campaign for the families of Endosulfan victims was held at Shiroor under the joint participation of Shivamogga MP B Y Raghavendra and Byndoor MLA Sukumar Shetty under the aegis of Seva Bharathi Karnataka, Prerana Trust Shivamogga, PES Shivamogga and health department of Udupi. The programme was inaugurated by Byndoor MLA Sukumar Shetty.

Speaking on the occasion, Sukumar Shetty said, "Vaccination needs to be done in order to eradicate Covid pandemic. This work is being done throughout the country. The cases of coronavirus in people who have taken the vaccines are very few. Experts also feel that a third wave may hit the state. In the wake of these developments, this campaign of free vaccination for endosulfan victims and their caretakers is organised under the guidance of MP Raghavendra. In Byndoor constituency several acre of cashew plantation is available. As the chemical endosulfan was sprayed from a helicopter, this disease has affected our people. In the Byndoor constituency there are 966 victims of endosulfan. Around 3,000 vaccines will be distributed equally to 14 PHCs.”

Former zilla panchayat member Shankar Poojary, former taluk panchayat member Pushparaj Shetty, Byndoor taluk health officer Dr Rajeshwari, chiefs of Seva Bharathi Prasanna Kumar, Roopalaxmi, health office of Shiroor PHC Dr Sahana, Dr Nambiar entrepreneur Venkatesh Kini, Manjunath and Nagashree were present.

Tulasidas welcomed the gathering and compered the programme.
