Mangalore, Sep 10: A workshop on ‘Gender sensitization’ was organized by the Women’s Cell and Rangers Association, St Agnes College on Thursday September 9.

Dimple Fernandes welcomed the gathering. Advocate Asha Nayar was the chief guest of the inaugural programme. Agneita Aiman introduced the chief guest.

Addressing the students from various colleges like SDM, Canara, St Aloysius as well as Agnes, Nayar conveyed a strong message upholding woman equality. She focused on various law-related aspects as well.

Principal Dr Sr Prem D’Souza lightened the atmosphere with her personal life experiences. Merlin Martis, co-ordinator of ‘Deeds NGO’ the first speaker of the day, spoke on various aspects covering the government and society’s work to protect women rights and give them equality. She gave tips on what students could do to save their rights and play their role in the society.

The second speaker for the day was Dr Savitha Pereira, professor in SDM College of Business Management who discussed the various social aspects and its connection with women.

The afternoon session included an interactive group discussion and competitions on women’s life from womb to tomb. It included a poster competition on the same topic as well. The programme concluded at 4.30.

Dr Rose Vira, associate professor and head of the department, political science, St Aloysius College presided over the valedictory session.  She stressed on the three aspects- equality, justice and freedom.
