Lady Gaga Goes Gaga at MTV Awards Show

Los Angeles, Sep 13 (DPA): It was Lady Gaga's night at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday where the provocative singer nabbed six prizes, including the coveted Video of the Year award for her song "Bad Romance".

Lady Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, also picked up trophies for Best Pop Video, Best Female Video, Best Collaboration Video, Best Editing/Directing, and Best Dance Video.

If managing all those acceptance speeches wasn't hard enough, she was kept even busier with her frequent costume changes which saw her don several extravagant outfits, many with towering shoes that made an adventure of her every trip to the stage.

She topped them all with her costume for Video of the Year, the biggest prize of the night, which she accepted wearing a dress that appeared to be made of meat.

Other notable winners were Eminem, who won Best Hip Hop Video and Best Male Video, while Canadian teenage sensation Justin Bieber took home the coveted Best New Artist trophy.

Lady Gaga, 24, was nominated for a record 13 prizes at the MTV Video Music Awards, an event which may not have the prestige of the Grammy Awards, but is probably the biggest single spectacle in the pop music world.

Eminem opened the three-hour spectacle which was hosted by racy late night TV comedienne Chelsea Handler. Other performers in the show included Kanye West, Linkin Park, Mary J. Blige, Drake, Usher, Paramore, Justin Bieber, B.o.B, Florence and the Machine, and Taylor Swift. Lindsay Lohan also made an appearance in a self-deprecating video skit in which she gave advice to Handler on staying sober.
