Udupi: Youth from Sringeri Drowns at Kaup

Udupi, Oct 7: A group of friends from Sringeri, who had arrived in the district to take part in the marriage function of a friend in Mulky, lost one of its members while playing at Kaup beach on Wednesday October 6 evening. The youth who drowned, has been identified as Harish (23), son of Manikya from Kanchinagar in Sringeri.

Harish, who owns a shop in Sringeri, had come here on Wednesday to attend the marriage of his friend, Mustafa. He was accompanied by eight friends. After attending the marriage, the group had reached Kaup beach to have fun.

The local fishermen, who were near the spot, rushed to help the drowning youth, but he was carried away by strong undercurrent by then, the locals said. Even after extensive search by expert divers, the body of Harish could not been recovered till late evening on Wednesday.

A case of unnatural death has been registered in Kaup police station.
