Mangalore, Oct 7: Speaking after releasing ‘Bhamini’ Kannada monthly at a function organized at the Dhyana Mandir of Sharada College in the city on Wednesday October 6, Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva, said that the media, which shoulders the huge responsibility of guiding the society and shaping people into excellent citizens, has been a powerful tool to address social evils. He said that the media bring new information to the people every day and provide a forum for new ideas and concepts to develop.

S Sumant, managing director of Mescom, who inaugurated the programme, lamented the fact that the reading habit among the people is on the wane, with the growth of technology. While expressing happiness about the fact that a new Kannada monthly has been added to the world of literature, he hoped that this publication will succeed in developing reading habit among the people.

Former president of central Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Harikrishna Punaroor, presided. Chief operating officer of Mangalore Special Economic Zone, A G Pai, Manjeshwar MLA, C H Kunhambu, and veteran Yakshagana artiste, Balipa Narayan Bhagawat, were present.
