Mangalore: 'Colloquy – 10’, Daylong Symposium at St Joseph's Engg College Held


Mangalore, Oct 9: The department of business administration, St Joseph Engineering College here organized ‘Colloquy – 10’, a daylong symposium on entrepreneurship, recently.

Students from MBA and M Com programmes from various colleges attended the symposium. The chief guest of the Inaugural function was Jacob Crasta, chief executive officer, CM Envirosystems Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru.

In his inaugural speech he motivated students to be enterprising and be passionate about their area of interest. He said that liberalizing the Indian economy has opened various avenues for entrepreneurship. Dr Prakash Pinto, dean, MBA welcomed the gathering. Babitha Rohit, organizing secretary, Colloquy -10 proposed the vote of thanks. Smita Jesudasan, senior lecturer compered the function.

The resource person for the first session was Prof Edmund Frank, Dean, PG Studies in Business Management, St Aloysius College (Autonomous). He related his experiences as an entrepreneur and cited several instances for being innovative and enterprizing. The second session for the day was taken up by Kumble Narasimha Prabhu, chief executive officer and managing director, Manipal – Ace Event Management Co (P) Ltd, Mangalore. He enlightened on the opportunities available and the challenges
faced by an entrepreneur. He said identifying what one is good at is important to become an entrepreneur.

Ronald D’Souza of Aquatic Biosystems, Mangalore, presented a talk on the scope available in ornamental fish farming in Mangalore.

The symposium concluded with the valedictory function in the evening. The chief guest for the valedictory function was K Jairaj Pai, president, Kanara Small Scale Industries Association, Mangalore. In his address to the students he highlighted upon the various schemes of the government to encourage entrepreneurship.
