Mangalore, Oct 10: A massive awareness rally on blood donation and eye donation jointly organized by Sparsha Social Service Organization, Bikarnakatte and Chaithanya Foundation, Siddakatte was held in the various parts of the city on Saturday October 9.

Mangalore Urban development Authority former chairman and Congress leader Suresh Ballal inaugurated the rally at the KSRTC Bus Stand, Bejai here. He symbolized inaugural ceremony by unveiling pamphlets carrying the message that creates awareness on the eye donation and blood donation.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that donating one's eyes and blood are one of the most humane acts. He appreciated the good work such as these carried on by organizations such as Sparsha.

Dr Annayya Kulal, who was the chief guest said that everyone between the age of 18 and 60 without any discrimination of sex can donate blood. Ladies can donate blood once in four months, while gents once in three months. One who intends to donate blood need to be over 45 kgs and needs to have over 12.5 count of haemoglobin.

KSRTC official Deepak Kumar, Chaithanya Foundation chairman Nigel Noronha, Sparsha director Denis D'Silva and vice-president Santhosh D'Costa were present.
