Udupi, Oct 12: Two youngsters, Roshan Lewis (18), and Raghavendra Acharya (16), died on the evening of Sunday October 10 while swimming in Suvarna River near Kukkude, Brahmavar in the district. However, the fact that they had drowned, came to light only on Monday.

The family members, who were worried at the fact that the boys had not returned home even after dusk, started searching for them, and found the clothes and bicycles of the boys on the river bank. Their efforts to locate their whereabouts did not yield any results till late night on Sunday. Bodies of both the boys were recovered on Monday.

Roshan Lewis, second of the three children of Robert Lewis, was shouldering the responsibility of running the family, after his father died in an accident seven years ago. After completing SSLC, he got involved with construction work. His mother, who is a daily wager, an elder sister and a younger brother, are shocked at the sudden turn of events.

Raghavendra, eldest of two sons of Baikady Vadiraj Acharya, was a tenth standard student of SMS High School, Brahmavar. He was a mild-mannered, brilliant student.

The spot where the two drowned has claimed several lives in the past. Although water at the spot is not deep, people get caught unawares because of thick sediment, people claim.
