Udupi: Coastal Security Police Force Gets Interceptor Boats

Udupi, Oct 14: Coastal Security Police Force, set up in the coast with the prime aim of blocking efforts of terrorists to make use of the sea route to target the shores, has received five new interceptor boats.

These interceptor boats will be in addition to the five boats already been provided to Malpe, Bhatkal, Kumta and Karwar stations of the unit last December. Five more boats, which are being manufactured at the Goa shipyard under the management of the union defence ministry, are expected to be delivered to the force by December this year.

Earlier, the force had two five-tonne boats and three 12-tonne ones. Four of the five boats now received are 12-tonners, with the remaining one being a five-tonner. The government plans to equip each of the five stations under the force with one five-tonne boat and two 12-tonne boats. These interceptors, which can move at a speed of 70 kms per hour, have been equipped with radars and global positioning systems.

These boats will be officially handed over to the units of the force, at a function being held at 11 am on Thursday October 14 at Malpe. Inspector general of police of the Anti Terrorist Squad, Sanjay Vir Singh, superintendent of coastal security police, S V Saudagar, district superintendent of police, Pravin Madhukar Pawar, Panambur Coastguard commander, P S Jha, and additional general manager of Goa Shipyard, B K Upadhyaya, will participate in the programme.

    This is a very good steps towards manning the sea cost of karnataka there by sea terrorrism can be controlled effectively. Trained Ex-naval and Ex-coast guard personnel if recruited on permanent basis the availability of trained personnel can be ensured for the operation of these sophisticated boats.
