Mangalore, Oct 18: Intermittent rains were received at many places of the twin districts on Sunday October 18. Many places in Karkala and Udupi taluks experienced heavy rains on Sunday morning, and again in the evening.
Rains were also reported in several places in Beltangady taluk and Mangalore taluk. The city too received rains on Sunday morning.
A release from the office of the meteorological department said that the coast and a few places in northern hinterlands are likely to get light to normal rains during the next 48 hours.
The rains, which are soaking standing paddy crops, have come as a dampener for the spirit of a number of farmers, who have been preparing to harvest the crops in the coming weeks. Heavy rains cause the paddy plants to fall to the ground. Consequently, the hay and paddy get soaked in standing water and rot over a period of time.
