Mangalore: Speeding Car Kills Pedestrian

Mangalore, Oct 18: Somashekhar (45), a car driver-cum-mechanic, residing in Voderbettu in Mulky, was killed after being hit by a car that was moving towards the city from Udupi on Saturday October 16 night, at Mulky.

After working as driver in Maharashtra for some years, he had returned to his native place with wife, Pushpa. He worked as car driver for a few years, and opened his own garage a few months ago.

Somashekhar was crossing the road to reach his home after Ayudha Puje in his garage at around 10 pm on Saturday night, when he was hit by the car. Because of his simplicity and honesty, Somashekhar had become very popular in the area. His death has come as a shock for the family, comprising his 75-year-old mother, deaf and dumb wife, and two children, six-year-old son and four-year-old daughter. 

The members of Mulky Drivers and Owners Association did not work on Sunday as a mark of respect for the deceased. A case has been registered in Mulky police station in connection with his death.
