Udupi, Oct 18: “Each one of those who have studied Dr Karant, whose volume of in-depth work in various subjects is fascinating, has understood this great man as per his/her own individual perception. The huge task of fully understanding him is yet to be taken up. There is a need to handle this work, to enable people to understand the gamut of Dr Karant’s persona and sphere of his activities,” opined well-known movie director, Girish Kasaravalli.

He was speaking after receiving ‘Dr Shivaram Karant Hutoora Prashasti’ instituted by Dr Karant Birthday Celebration Committee and Kotatattu gram panchayat, at a function organized at Giliyar Sri Shambhavi Vidyadayini school hall on Sunday October 17, located in Karant’s home town, Kota.

State minister for higher education, Dr V S Acharya, who handed over the award to Kasaravalli, noted that the late Karant’s interests were many, including language, science, Yakshagana, plays, movies, etc. He felt that by making the right choice of Girish Kasaravalli for the award, the concerned have honoured Dr Karant himself.

Litterateur, Dr Jayaprakash Mavinakuli, delivered an address in memory of the late Karant. Kotatattu gram panchayat president, Raghu Tingalaya, presided. Taluk panchayat member, Jyoti Girish, and Prof K R Hande, were present.

Karant Birthday Celebrations Committee honorary president, Anand C Kunder, welcomed. MLC, Kota Srinivas Poojary, delivered introductory address. Teacher, Vittal V Gaonkar, explained about the significance of the award. Sridhar Hande introduced the life and achievements of Kasaravalli in his ‘Bhagavatike’ style.

On this occasion, prizes were distributed to winners of various competitions organized on the occasion of the late Karant’s birth anniversary. Narendra Kumar Kota presented the programme.
