Udupi, Sep 30: Ramesh G D, owner of Osteo Marketing, has filed a complaint of cheating against Prakash Rao from Ambalpady here. He has accused Rao of collecting an amount of Rs 33.82 lac from him with the promise of selling land and then neither selling the land not refunding the money given as advance.

A case based on the complaint was registered in the cyber-crime, economic offences and narcotics (CEN) police station here.

It is said that Prakash Rao had made the complainant believe that he would sell ten cents land held in the joint names himself and others for Rs 36 lac. He had got Ramesh to deposit Rs 33.82 lac deposited into the bank account. The remaining amount was to be paid at the time of land registration. The seller had promised to transfer land to the purchaser's name within two months.

Later, the seller said that the other partners of the land were not agreeable for the sale. Ramesh sought refund of the amount. The accused issued nine cheques towards refund of the advance amount but they were dishonoured for want of funds, the complainant has claimed.
