Mangalore, Oct 13: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Subodh Yadav, warned of serious repercussions if the officials of the city corporation fail to take strict action towards ensuring that no business is conducted within the city limits without obtaining licence for the same.

Addressing a meeting of city corporation officials held in his office on Friday November 12 afternoon, he noted that a number of applications for licences are pending approval. He advised the officials to show at least minimum commitment to improve the system in a phased manner, and predicted that the system will collapse if the officials fail to act now.  He asked the officials to cogitate upon the prevailing situation and come out with suggestions to improve the situation, and warned that he would not tolerate irresponsibility on their part. City commissioner, Dr K N Vijayaprakash, Mangalore Urban Development Authority commissioner, Madhukar Gadkar, revenue officer, Maghana and several other officials participated in the meeting.

Speaking at the performance review meeting of the city corporation, Yadav noted that it is the duty of every citizen to pay for the potable water supplied to him by the city corporation. He noted that revenue leakage on this front will hurt the future development of the city.

He set deadline to the corporation officials for severing illegal water connections. He noted that fixing of meters for water being provided to poor people free of cost will benefit the corporation in assessing actual loss due to unaccounted water usage. He wanted the officials to exercise foresight and prepare an action plan to plug leakage of legitimate income to the corporation through illegal and unaccounted water connections.
