Mangalore, Nov 15: On Sunday November 14, the policemen held Property Parade in the district police complex in the city. Stolen items that were recovered through police action during the last three months were displayed, and returned to the original owners.

Addressing a press conference after the parade, district superintendent of police, Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, said that in the year 2010, the policemen of the district had returned valuables worth Rs 62,68,334 to their legitimate owners. He claimed, that the success rate of the department I recovering stolen assets this year stands at 90%.

Rao noted that the police department is plagued by the shortage of staff, and the need to pay attention towards keeping a tab on the movement of underground criminals. The other duties which take a toll of the policemen are the need to control communal clashes and providing personnel for VIP security, he explained. He called upon the people to extend full cooperation to the policemen in their efforts to maintain law and order, and requested volunteer organizations, social workers, community and neighbourhood patrol organizations, to extend their support to the police department as before.

A few people, who had come to claim their assets, hailed the policemen for the prompt action in registering a case and taking up the investigation in all earnestness, and arresting the thieves.
