London, Nov 23 (IANS) Singer Jessica Simpson burst into tears when her fiance Eric Johnson proposed to her earlier this month because it came as "a total surprise".
Johnson requested her parents' permission before asking her to marry him, and she was so overwhelmed by the romantic gesture that she couldn't stop crying.
"He had a plan a long time ago. He had a talk with my mom and dad about it...He was a gentleman about it. It was a total surprise," femalefirst.co.uk quoted Simpson as saying.
"I said 'yes' and we both definitely were teary-eyed. I didn't even try the ring on until five minutes in, I just sat there and cried with him," the singer said.
Simpson was delighted with Johnson's decision to buy her a ruby ring instead of a traditional diamond, because the gem is her birth stone.
