Mangalore, Jan 16: The Canara Organization for Development & Peace (CODP) and Karnataka Womens’ Commission jointly organized a programme on ‘Legal Awareness’ for women of Self Help Groups at CODP-ISD hall here on Saturday January 15.

Aarathi, family counsellor under Karnataka State Women’s Commission, was the chief guest. She spoke on the various types of atrocities committed on women and the formalities involved in contacting the commission to redress their problems.

The resource person Vijaya, an advocate explained in brief about legal aspects with regard to atrocities committed on families. The participants enthusiastically interacted with the resource person and clarified their doubts.

At the close of the session, the participants comprising Self Help Group members and animators shared their experiences with the resource person on how they had implemented the RTI Act in their respective areas. They also discussed with him the problems faced and steps taken to face them.

Before concluding the day’s programme, Fr Onil D’Souza, director of CODP, wished the participants well and also thanked the resource person for her message to the gathering. Bharathi, vice-president of Namana Okkoota- Bantwal, proposed the vote of thanks.

The programme was attended by over 50 women.
