Bantwal, Jan 17: The rural police team nabbed two persons who were trying to sell a pair of fake ivory tusks and a fake Nagamani, a precious jewel believed to be found in the hood of serpents, on Monday January 17. 

The arrested have been identified as 70-year-old Goslam alias Chamcham and 17-year-old Chandra Alias Surya, both residents of Angadihalli in Beloor taluk, Hassan district. 

Bantwal rural police sub-inspector tahsildar Mohammed Rafiq, addressing media persons at the police station, said that the duo was trying to sell the fake items to a certain Yogish Prabhu, residing at Pilimogaru in Vamadapadavu gram panchayat, near here, on Monday. 

The duo had struck a deal with Prabhu to sell the ivory for Rs 1.50 lac and Nagamani for Rs 2 lac, and Prabhu had already paid an advance of Rs 30,000. The duo had come to deliver the items to Prabhu and collect the balance amount when he sensed that both were fake items.  He informed the police at the rural station and the two were arrested.   

The operation was carried out under the direction of circle inspector Nanjunde Gowda by sub-inspector tahsildar Mohammed Rafiq and police personnel Jagannath, Anand, Anil Lobo, Pramod, Suresh, Kaleimar, Durgadas, and Kiran. 

Police sources informed that Goslam had posed as a ‘Swami’ with his accomplice Chandra as his disciple.
