Mangalore, Jan 19: A miscreant named Abdul Latif (27) from Shanti Angadi in Bantwal taluk, came to Mogaveerapatna Goddess Vyaghrachamundeshwari Temple in Ullal and damaged its main entrance on Tuesday January 18. With the intervention of leaders from both the communities, the issue was resolved amicably, and a religious flare up was averted.

Latif, who came to the temple at around 3.30 am in his motor bike, scaled the main entrance of the said temple, and damaged a number of idols carved on it. The locals, who heard the noises he made, informed the policemen. Later, the neighbours, with the help of policemen, forced the youth to come down from atop the entrance, and caught hold of him, it is gathered. Although a number of people belonging to Mogaveera community, enraged by the incident, gathered at the spot, the leaders requested them to stay calm.

In Ullal police station, Mogaveera leaders, Sadanand Bangera and Babu Bangera, Darga president, U K Monu Kanachur, Bhagavati Tiya Samaj president, Chandrahas Ullal, etc., held a meeting, and succeeded in resolving the issue through mutual consent.

Rural circle inspector, Lingappa Poojary, MLA, U T Khader, and others, visited the spot later.
