Udupi, Jan 20: As the gazette notification authorising the divisional officers, who are the returning officers for the election to choose presidents and vice presidents of taluk and zilla panchayats has not yet been issued, the election process has been hit by delays.
The possibility of holding these elections before February is remote. Hence, there is no option left for the administrative officers other than taking over charge and running these bodies till regular presidents and vice presidents are elected, once the terms of the present incumbents come to an end later this month, it is learnt.
It is however, understood, that the elections will most probably, be held during the first week of February.
