Bantwal, Jan 20: At a meeting held here to break the deadlock on the shifting of Brahmasannidhi, a centre of prayer in Brahmarakootlu in the taluk, which thousands of its devotees believe, has divine powers, remained unresolved on Thursday January 19. This religious place, which is located adjacent to national highway 17 between Mangalore and the town, is proposed to be cleared for paving way for highway widening.

At the meeting, the revenue department officials came up with an offer to allot alternative land for the relocation of Brahmasannidhi. As the response from those opposing the shifting of the centre was not favourable for this proposal, the discussions had to be postponed without arriving at a decision.

Mangalore assistant commissioner, Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, chairman of Coastal Development Authority, B Nagaraj Shetty, managing trustee of Brahmasannidhi, Rajashekhar Rai, officer of National Highways Authority of India, Prashant Gavasane, and tahsildar, Ravichandra Nayak, participated in the meeting with those who are opposing the shifting of the religious place.

While the local leaders stuck to their stand that the location of the religious centre cannot be shifted at any cost, officials said that it is impossible to change the blue print of the road widening that has already been approved, and that the ministry of highways will not permit change in the plan, even if it is approached for modification.

Sources said that a combined opinion to seek a solution to the problem through a fresh divine query through procedures stated in astrology, emerged at the meeting.
