Udupi, Jan 21: It is gathered, that the policemen investigating the murder of rowdy sheeter, Vinod Shettigar, inside the district jail premises on Friday January 14, have found that Pitty Nagesh was instrumental in hatching a conspiracy kill him and supplying knives for the purpose.

Vinod was in jail for murderous assault on Pitty Nagesh, his sworn enemy, on July 20 last. Nagaraj, who is one of the accused in Shettigar murder case, was a friend of Raghavendra (24), son of Pitty’s elder brother. Raghavendra, who works in a pub in Manipal, reportedly has connections in various places.

The policemen have got information that Nagaraj had told Raghavendra on January 12 that he and his friends were facing problems in jail because of Vinod Shettigar. Raghavendra contacted Pitty Nagesh, who hatched the plan to eliminate Shettigar, and handed over three knives to him. It was agreed that the knives in question would be hidden in a toilet located in Karkala court premises by Raghavendra, and Muttappa, who was scheduled to attend court hearing on January 13, was to collect the same from there. Muttappa, who entered the said toilet at around 6.30 pm on January 13, concealed the three knives found in the toilet, in his abdomen and back. As it was dusk, the policemen did not notice this. The next day, Muttappa, Nagaraj, Riaz and Sharanappa quarrelled with Vinod on some flimsy grounds and eliminated him as planned, it is learnt.

In the meanwhile, it is found that Pitty Nagesh, who has since recovered from injuries, has gone missing from his residence. The above accused, who were remanded to police custody on Wednesday, were interrogated by the policemen. The policemen of Udupi town station arrested Raghavendra from the house of one of his friends on Thursday. Now, Raghavendra has been named as one of the accused in the case.

The policemen are now trying to locate the whereabouts of Pitty Nagesh. Pitty Nagesh has been named as sixth accused in the case. Along with the other accused, Raghavendra was also taken to Belgaum jail on Thursday.
