Mangalore, Jan 31: The general body meeting of the Mulageni Okkalu Rakshana Vedike was held at Don Bosco Hall on Sunday January 30.

Vedike president Maxim D’Silva presided over the meeting on Sunday morning. Speaking on the occasion, Maxim said that although both the legislative assembly and council recently approved the Bill on empowering ownership to Mulagenidars, there are several processes it has to go through in order to become an Act.

He urged the all the members of the Vedike, to stay united in the struggle.  The Vedike’s legal advisor A P Gowri Shanker briefed about the legal processes that have to be undergone by the above mentioned Bill before it becomes an Act.  He also advised the members to support the Vedike in their legal battle that may necessitate seeking justice in the High Court or Supreme Court to face the many challenges posed by Mulgers and middlemen in this regard.

A minute of silent prayer was observed at 11-00 am to mark the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Assistant secretary Joseph Saldanha read the minutes of the last meeting and cautioned the members against the possibility of cheating by vested interests in the guise of selling Mulgenidar’s rights.
Treasurer Vishwanath Bolar introduced the donors in the struggle of the Vedike and acknowledged their support.

Executive president Jagdish Rao compered the programme. General secretary Ronald D'Silva proposed the vote of thanks. B Sitaram, Vasudev, Joseph Martis, Dr Jayaram, Yashodar, Isaac Rasquinha, Valerian Mascarenhas, Wilfred D’Souza, Eric Coelho, K Gopalakrishna, Captain Hue Vas, Rama Devadiga, Vittal Bejai, Gerald Tavers, McLean Karkada, Simon George Pinto, Nandakishore, and Lilly D’Souza were present on the occasion.
