Mangalore, Jan 1: At a press conference held at press club on Tuesday February 1, Fr Francis D’Almeida, vice principal, St Aloysius College said that the commerce and science faculty of St Aloysius College, Mangalore are organizing a two-day national level inter-collegiate commerce and science festivals – ‘Acme 2011’, and ‘Imprints 2011’ respectively at the college on February 3 and 4. The theme for ‘ACME 2011’ is 'The Business of Music', and theme for ‘Imprints 2011’ is 'The Science Network'.
Imprints 2011: This is a network where scientific ideas are born, nurtured, promoted and executed. The science network focuses on scientific growth and education, enabling the students to transform good things into better and better into the best. Imprints will be hoisting the events like Log In (Ice Breaker), Sci Space (Seminar), Research Gate (Physical science event), Life Knot (Life Science Event), Techyyz Showdown (Computer Science Event), Wikileaks (Quiz), Tweet Up (Debate), iSurvive (Imprints Personality), Medley of Models (Science Exhibition) and Blog (Newsletter). This year around 20 colleges and 200 participants from in and around the state will be exhibiting their scientific temper and creativity.
The highlight of the fest is the science exhibition. There will be more than 70 exhibits from the host college as well as the participating colleges. Students of neighboring schools, colleges and the general public are welcome to witness the development in science and technology.
Dr Arunachalam Kumar, Dean of KSHEMA will be inaugurating the fest on 3rd February at 9 am in the college auditorium. Valedictory function will be presided over by J R Lobo, deputy executive, director, Pilikula Nisargadhama at 4 pm on February.
Dr Ivan Pinto is the staff coordinator and Solomon Simon of third year B.Sc (PCSM) is the student coordinator of this fest.
‘ACME – 2011’, commerce fest:
The fest is organized by the ‘commerce association’ along with the faculty of commerce and its students. Shobha Anchan is the staff coordinator for this year ACME, along with Rahail Patel and Stefi Varsha Pinto as student coordinators.
The fest revolves around the theme ‘The Business of Music’. The main objectives of ACME are to tap human resources and talent, enhance the knowledge of students in the areas of trade, industry and commerce and to provide opportunities for staff-student interaction and thus establish a better rapport. A total of 100 students from around 12 colleges in and around Karnataka are expected to participate in this two-day event.
St Agnes College, Besant College, Canara College, from Mangalore, Christ College, St. Joseph’s Day College, St. Joseph’s evening college and Kristu Jayanthi College, Jain College from Bangalore and Poorna Prajna College from Udupi have already confirmed their participation.
This year there are seven main events in ACME, which includes ‘Master of Puppets’ (The Best Manager), The Longest Day, Wall Street Shuffle (Mock Stock), L.A Money Train (Finance), Bohemian Rhapsody (Marketing), Sultans of Swing (Human Resource), and Money Talks (Entrepreneurial Development) which is one of its newest additions.
G G Mohandas Prabhu, the president of Kanara Chambers of Commerce and Industries will inaugurate the ACME Fest in the IT Auditorium of the college at 9 am on February 3. Fr Joseph Rodrigues will be the guest of honor for the programme. The valedictory function is scheduled to be held on February 4 at 4.30 pm. Derek Lobo, retired regional advisor of world health organization will be the chief guest for the function.
Both these festival were started in 1998 and are now into their 13th year.
