Byndoor, Jun 4: A public mock drill of the relief measures to be taken during rain related floods was held at the Nalpuda riverside, Navunda grama here in the leadership of taluk administration and fire brigade on Saturday, June 4.

The demonstration of operation by fire brigade, rescue of the person being washed away in the water and first aid was shown. As there was low tide in the Nalpuda river, the display was not so effective. There are floods here about four to five times during the monsoons.

Byndoor tahsildar Shobha Laxmi said that the mock drill was held to show and guide the people what they should do during the floods and the ways the department and fire brigade faces the situation.

Villagers requested to raise the level of their roads. “There should be a bridge from the island. Construct at least a suspended bridge for the time being. The boat that is provided to the people now is too large and it is difficult to use it when the lake overflows, they said.

Taluk panchayat executive officer Bharati, block education officer G M Mundinamani, Navunda gram panchayat president Janaki Mogaveera, vice president Nirmala Shetty, former president Narasimha Devadiga, education department’s Vishwanath Shetty, gram panchayat members, fire brigade personnel, police personnel, forest department staff, health department officials asha workers and local people were present.
