Bangalore: PGET Results on Hold after Toppers’ ‘Malpractices’

Bangalore, March 6(DHNS): The State government has declared as ‘provisional’ the result of the Post Graduate Entrance Test (PGET) for medical and dental courses of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) after complaints that examination toppers might have used unfair means to secure their ranks.

The test result declared on Saturday showed that of the top ten ranks this year, seven have been bagged by candidates appearing from just one centre in Bellary.

Medical Education Minister S A Ramdas said “ We received some anonymous phone calls claiming that malpractices were involved in the seven students securing top 10 ranks. They also alleged that the academic record of these students is not very good, hence it is not possible for them to have received such high ranks”.

Results to be provisional

The Minister said that after receiving the tipoff, a decision had been taken to make the results provisional. The anonymous complainants have alleged that the candidates who bagged the top ranks were provided with answers key during the latter half of the entrance exam.

A complaint has been filed in Tilaknagar police station to look into this matter. “We have also asked the police to investigate the earlier complaint involving candidates taking the examination in a car”, he said.

“Moreover, any complaints that have been received by the department against PGET will also be investigated”, he added.  For the PGET candidates, it means they will have to wait till the conclusion of the investigation before their ranks are finalised.

Second time

The new scandal marks the second time that complaints against the medical/dental examination have been made. In February, a private TV channel showed images of candidates allegedly taking the exam in a car.

However, a probe by the university dismissed the TV report as concocted and proceeded to recommend that the results of the examination should be announced.
