Mangalore: International Women's Day Celebrated at Balkunje

Mangalore, Mar 7:  Eight women’s organisations of Kinnigoli Varado organized the international women's day celebration at St Paul's School, Balkunje, hosted by Veronica Women Organisation of Balkunje parish, here on Monday, March 7.

Fr Hilary Lobo, parish priest and spiritual director of women's organisation of Balkunje unit presided over the function. Fr Norbert Lobo, parish priest of Mulki Unit and Varado director of women's organisation, Fr Alfred J Pinto, vicar vara of Kinnigoli deanary were the chief guests for the programme.

The variety entertainment programme was held by the eight parishes of Kinnigoli varado. Fr Norbert Lobo felicitated the president of the parishes of women organisations. Fr Alfred Pinto distributed the prizes of the competition which was held on the eve of women's day. Fr Hilary lobo awarded the shield for the throw ball tournament winners. Nelson Lobo, a member of taluk panchayath was also felicitated on the occasion.

In his presidential speech Fr Hilary Lobo said that in the ancient days  it was said that women's place was in the kitchen. But now the situation has changed. Today women have equal rights and they work in every field. The women’s organisation helps them to achieve confidence, self respect and a right place in the society, he added.

Later Dr Venkatesh Sanjeev, M D, the resource person on the occasion, explained about the illness of breast cancer.

Louisa Lobo welcomed the guest and the gathering. Edna D'Souza, varado president of women organisation read the report of the various activities of the organisation for the last one year. Lavina Menezes proposed the vote of thanks. Anitha D'Souza compered the programme.
