Mangalore: Unauthorized Blasting of Rocks – Five Held

Mangalore, Mar 8: On a complaint of setting of a number of blasts of rocks through detonators unauthorizedly, and damaging a school and a number of houses located in Kanchakody, Addoor village near here, the policemen of Bajpe station, on Monday March 7, arrested five persons, MK Bawa, Ramesh, Janardan, Nazir Ahmed, and Vinay Kumar.

A tractor, compressor, 120 gelatine sticks, electronic detonator, explosives and other things were confiscated from the possession of the accused. The department of mines and geology has banned the detonation of rocks by using explosives. However, in violation of these instructions, the rocks were blasted at around 2 pm, whereupon, the police party raided the spot.

The operation was guided by Panambur assistant commissioner of police, Puttamadaiah, and inspector, Valentine D’Souza. Bajpe sub-inspector of police, Mahadeva Lakshman Eligar, and other personnel, executed the operation. The accused were produced in the court.
