Udupi, Mar 10: On Wednesday March 9, Paryaya Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji of Shirur Mutt handed over a certificate issued by Guinness Book of World Records to Sanjay Dayanand from Kadoor near Kokkarne in the district. Sanjay has won this distinct recognition for carving a miniature idol of Lord Ganesha on the tip of a pencil.
In his address delivered on the occasion, the Swamiji said that coastal Karnataka is a land of artistes, and home for a large number of talented persons. He also noted that a number of people hailing from this part have been serving various countries meritoriously.
Entrepreneur, Pramod Madhwaraj, who participated in the function as the chief guest, wanted all the concerned to extend encouragement to rural talents, feeling that such encouragement will help more and more rural-based talents to hog the limelight.
Sportsperson, Ashwini Shetty, local municipal president, Kiran Kumar, Koodli Lord Janardana Temple managing trustee, Satyanarayan Udupa, and Corporation Bank manager, Gopalakrishna Maiya, congratulated Sanjay for the feat. MGM College lecturer, Kokkarne Surendranath Shetty, delivered introductory address. Diwan of the Mutt, P Latavya Acharya, welcomed. Eshwar Chitpady proposed vote of thanks.
To the amazement of the people present, Sanjay carved out an idol of Lord Srikrishna with a height of 0.75 mm and width of 1.8 mm on the tip of a pencil within 12 minutes. He also coloured the idol with bare eyes. This idol was shown to the people on a LCD screen set up at the venue. Sanjay plans to create the idol of Lord Krishna that is smaller than ‘Nano Ganesha’ in size, on a pencil tip shortly.
