Udupi, Jun 14: “The Kannada language draft bill is under preparation from the state Kannada Development Authority. The government will make an announcement on it in a few days. The problems should be identified in initial stages. If it becomes successful with the consent of the government, there will be an amazing tool and base for Kannada, Kannadigas and Karnataka,” said president of the authority Dr T S Nagabharana.

He was speaking in a news conference held at the district panchayat auditorium, Rajathadri about implementation of Kannada in government offices on Tuesday, June 14. “Rules cannot be made without the bill,” he said.

“As Sarojini Mahishi report is not based on the legal framework it could not be implemented,” he said.

“Kannada language should be used in competitive examinations. Local language should be given equal importance. We urge that those should beavailable in 22 regional languages including Kannada. We have gone to Delhi, visited the concerned and submitted a petition in this connection,” he said.

Answering questions that the decisions taken during Kannada literary conference were not implemented, Nagabharana said that some decisions were beyond the legal parameters. “There will be a communication only between the government, chief minister and parishat in such cases. We come to know that it is pertaining to the authority only during its implementation. We go for works on Kannada sometimes even when not invited. Several decisions do not reach the authority,” he said.

“When people complete their routine work and visit a bank for their needs they should communicate in Kannada. Banks should hold Kannada classes for staff in case of difficulties,” he said.

“The warning signs in all the industries should be in Kannada to prevent untoward incidents. Local people should be employed for skilled and unskilled work. There should be Kannada cells. The use and composition of manure, insecticides and medicine should be mentioned in Kannada. The medical report about patients by doctors should be in Kannada,” he said.

“Kannada language should be made mandatory in all the schools, madrasas and English medium schools. The education officer should write to the union government to consider the marks in Kannada also. The name boards should be in Kannada.”

“The application forms for tenders should be in Kannada. Kannada should be heard and seen everywhere,” he said.
