Mangaluru, Jun 17: World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was held at AK Neuropsychiatry and Counselling center
at Maryhill in the city on June 15.
The programme was inaugurated by city north MLA Dr Bharat Shetty. Speaking on the occasion, Shetty said, “Elderly people undergo abuse and harassment due to various reasons and suffer mental pressure. This leads to forgetfulness, shock etc. Children, who eye the assets and money of their parents, forget to show them love and affection. Psychiatrist Dr Kiran Kumar has organized this day in a meaningful manner.”
Dr Kiran Kumar said, “We have been offering counselling and treatment to patients at Highland in the city from the past 20 years and now since three years at Maryhill. We are beginning for the first time in the city ‘Manasa Sanjivini’ programme of offering counselling to senior citizens.”
MLA Dr Bharath Shetty unveiled the clinical logo of AK Centre.
Nimhans doctor Dr P T Shivakumar, Dr Vijay Habri Shettar, Dr K P Shenoy, Sr Maria Jyoti, founder of St Ann’s special school, senior doctor Dr Ravish Tunga, Dr Satish Kallimar, Dr Isha Gauri and corporator Jayananda Anchan were present.
