Mumbai: Kannada Meet Won't Strengthen Karnataka's Claim on Belgaum - Thackeray

Mumbai, Mar 12, (PTI): Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on Saturday warned the political class in neighbouring Karnataka not to ''provoke'' the Maharashtrians, against the backdrop of World Kannada Convention at Belgaum, and reports of repression of Marathi-speakers living there.

Karnataka government can not bolster the state's claim over Belgaum merely through holding the Kannada Convention there, the editorial in Sena mouthpiece `Samana', edited by Bal Thackeray, said today.

Belgaum, which has a sizable Marathi-speaking population, has been a bone of contention ever since the two states came into existence.

"Is there a democracy or a Libyan dictator Gaddafi's rule?"  the editorial asked today, referring to reports of beating up of Marathi-speakers by Karnataka police.

"Marathi and Kannada languages are like twin sisters and therefore we wish the World Kannada Meet well. However, Karnataka Government chose Belgaum as the venue purposely", the editorial said.

Alleging that in the run-up to the event, the Marathi-speakers in Belgaum faced atrocities at the hands of Karnataka police, the editorial said the objective of the Convention was not to promote Kannada language, but to "provoke and crush" the Marathi-speakers.

The editorial also referred to Bollywood actor, Aishwarya Rai, who has been invited to the Convention. "We do not oppose Aishwarya attending the convention. We have no quarrel with the Kannada language, but with the regime there which uses force against Marathis.

We wish Aishwarya goes there as a Maharashtrian and offers sympathy to Marathi-speakers there, but actors go to such events not as a social duty, but as a part of `deal'", it said.

    Chiildren find happiness by the
    things they possess, and the
young people by playing with their
emotions. The old will enjoy with
    the character and nobility they
    have accumulated down through their
    life.

For some people, as they get old,
    their wisdom will increase and
    they can impart their knowledge
and wisdom to the young generations.

But, for some people, since all through their life did nothing
but sowing the seeds of division
and problems as they get father
old, they can be terrible tools
of creating more problems in the
    society.

What Mr. Thackery has done in his
    prime time? Nothing but troubles,
simply for his gains and also
    for family.

Now, even in his old age, he will
not stop roaring, but the roaring
is simply ignored by all, as if like
the barking of a pet dog. When he
will get some sense to stop this
    habit?

I agree to Balasaheb actions. What he said is to safeguard the Marathi speaking people. This is a long standing dispute issue. But the comments which I read is disgusting. You people are bringing to limelight the old issues. I am from Goa. Here people speaks Konkani, Marathi, Hindi & Urdu. But we never go so deep in the language issues. My dear people Balasaheb is only safeguarding his people. He is 100% issue base gentleman.

Wakeup....Bal Thackeray. What do you think Belgaum will come to Maharastra soon? May be you have to wait a few generations. As long as Kannada and Marathi do not have any problems as such why are you creats problems by making up people with such comments. Mr. Bal Thackeray has wished the fact that Marathi and Kannadiga need to live together harmoniousely. What is all this folish comments? The fact is that there is lots of marathi peoples in the Belgaum area not from today. Kannadiga peoples contributed a lot to Maharastra.

Lots of Kannadiga in Mumbai, but we don't claim it. Karnataka government has chosen Belgaum as the venue for the World Kannada Convention at Belgaum. Kannadiga need not to claim Belgaum as it is already in Karnataka State. Bal Thackeray should concentrate on Mumbai instead of poking his long dirty nose everywhere. Mr. Thackeray do not hurry. Think less and try to enjoy your old-age life. Have pet dogs, cats or birds in your house and spend time with them. Belgaum will always belongs in Karnataka. Jai hind Karnataka....

This toothless tiger is licking his own wounds. Why he is not telling Marathis in Belgaum learn to read/write Kannada, like exactly he or his goons tried on all migrants to Bombay - esp, biharis and UP migrants? Suggest, you spend quality time in peace and repenting grave mistakes and past atrocities committed against innocents in Maharashtra instead of endlessly searching for trivial issues like this, just pop up once a while, to indicate that the tiger is still in the cage.

Oh aged and teethless rotten junk you have gone insane. You are not the protectors of marathi speaking people and you just represent a political party. You dont hold any constitutional post to proclaim yourself as protector of marathi maanus. Kannada convention shall neither weaken Karnataka's claim of Belgaum. Just relax and chew tobacco and gutka. You could not solve Belgaum issue in these 65 years of independence, why are you giving lectures about Kashmir issue which is a bone of contention between India and Pakistan. Its very much true that in oldage people act and talk childish and you are no exception to this. I really pity on your oldage....Is he a sanyasi wearing saffron and beeds around his neck who sleep in airconditoned bungalow and enjoy all luxuries where as a true sanyasi would renounce all material wealth and go after spiritual enlightenment. In kaliyug one will find all dongi babas, saints, mullahs with intensity of earthquakes ans tsunamis incresing... We have to take a note of this dangerous signs....

He has been booked under sections of The Immoral Traffic Act.
