Bantwal, Jun 28: MLA U T Khader who inspected the waste disposal unit at Sajipanadu Kanchinadka Padavu in the council limits after public outcries of irregularities locked the unit on Tuesday June 28.

The land for the unit was identified in 2007. But there was opposition to construct the unit. MLA U T Khader had also opposed it. However, the unit started after assurance of scientific disposal of waste was obtained in the meeting under the deputy commissioner.

Bantwal municipal council had agreed to hand over the income from the unit to the local panchayat. However, wet waste which is being dumped in the unit, is now causing unbearable stink.

Former president of Sajipanadu gram panchayat Nasir Sajipa had sent on social media, a video of the wet waste and warned of protests. The complaint had reached the MLA also who inspected the unit and expressed anguish over the irresponsibility of the council. Therefore, he locked the unit.

Chandrahasa Karkera, Yashwant Peraje, Abdul Razak Kukkaje, Aboobacker Sajipa, Tulasi and others were present.
