Mangaluru: Indefinite strike throughout state from July 1 for direct recruitment in local bodies

Mangaluru, Jun 30: B K Annappa, convener of Dakshina Kannada-Udupi district outsource employees association said that an indefinite strike was organized from July 1 to urge direct recruitment, instead of contract system, for the civic workers, vehicle drivers of garbage vans, watermen, data operators, UGD labourers and garbage assistants of all 314 city local organizations throughout the state.

Annappa said that all the outsourced employees of city municipalities, town municipalities and town panchayats falling under the limits of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will support this strike.

The protest by the Dakshina Kannada district outsourced employees will be held in front of the DC office in the city from July 1 as per the information given by Anil Kumar, president of district civic workers and fourth grade workers.

Anil Kumar further said, “The jobs of underground (UGD) civic workers, additional civic workers, van drivers of house garbage collection and garbage transportation, loaders, assistants, supervisors of civic workers and all cleaning workers should be made permanent. In addition, various local demands should be met. The protest will be held for an indefinite period.”
