Udupi: Potholed Malpe-Karavali bypass road - Youth Congress warns of protest

Media Release:

Udupi, Jul 14: Dion D’souza, Secretary Udupi district youth Congress has warned about holding extreme protest against the negligence of people's representatives and authorities over the potholed Malpe-Karavali bypass road.

In a press statement Dion said , “Every day, fatal accidents have been happening on this stretch of road. The local representatives and civic authorities are behaving irresponsibly and just fill the potholes which disappear within two days. The local CMC member is claiming that the work should be undertaken by national highway authority and they have been directed to do so. Discussing the matter in the council meetings and not following it up is now causing risk to the daily commuters. Have not the Udupi MLA and MP travelled on this road?

"The surface of the roads had worn out even before the rains began and this is nothing but negligence which is causing a threat to commuters. Announcing hundreds of crores for the development of the new road in order to gain credit and not doing anything about the existing one which has been extremely dangerous for travel is an act of negligence. If it is not possible to undertake patchwork of the potholes during rains, can't there be at least a precautionary signboard or a reflector barricade put in order to slow down the vehicles when they approach near the potholes?

"If the concerned representatives and officials still fail to take any precautionary measures immediately and continue to ignore the complaints of the people, we will stage a protest march against the concerned," warned Dion in his statement.
