Bengaluru, Jul 30: Archbishop of Bangalore Most Rev Dr Peter Machado has strongly condemned the attacks against a Supreme Court judge for allegedly delaying hearing on cases pertaining to Christians and reiterated that the Christian community has immense faith in judiciary.

“We would never imagine or doubt that the Supreme Court would delay or hesitate to take up important issues that affect human rights or religious freedom,’’ the Archbishop has said in a statement released to the press on Saturday.

He said: “I am extremely distressed about the articles in newspapers that the Hon'ble Supreme Court is not taking up the matter on attack against Christians. There is no merit in these allegations. I strongly condemn it. It is understood that a Judge who is affected with Covid cannot by any stretch of imagination be blamed for delaying the hearing.’’

At the same time, the Archbishop mentioned that attacks on Christians in the country, especially in the States where the Anti-Conversion Bills have been passed, were still taking place.

"Many of such incidents are not even reported in the public. We are convinced that the Supreme Court will bring forth justice in this matter,’’ he added.
