Puttur, Aug 1: The bridge at Mayyala which connects Eshwaramangala of the taluk to Delampady in Kerala collapsed and the road connectivity is lost. Resident of this border area are facing inconvenience.

The old bridge which was installed across Salethadka rivulet at Mayyala got washed away after collapsing. People of Delampady of Kerala are dependent on Eshwaramangala for their daily needs. Now they are facing the brunt.

Locals have made a temporary wooden bridge using arecanut planks. But those who go by vehicles have to cover eight km via Ujampady.

Most students of Delampady and Mayyala study at Menala, Eshwaramangala, Kavu and Puttur. They are also put in hardship due to the collapse of this bridge.

The demand of the locals to demolish the old bridge and build a new one which is placed decades ago has not got any response from the administration. The locals allege that the administration is not interested as it is border area.

MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor visited the spot on Sunday and got information from locals. Residents of that locality informed that the bridge was built earlier by Kerala government. Though the spot where the bridge existed belongs to Kerala state, the locals have urged Karnataka government also to help and resolve the issue immediately.
