Development of Magadi’s Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple at Rs 5 cr

Bengaluru, Aug 1: The historical Sri Ranganattha Swamy temple in Magadi will be developed at a cost of Rs 5 crore, Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan announced on Monday.

Speaking to media persons at the Magadi temple on Monday, Dr Narayan, who is the Ramanagara district in-charge minister, said the vision group of the State Tourism Development has chalked up a plan for the development of various historical temples and tourist attractions. The complete renovation of the Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple is part of the plan, he said.

The minister said the government was keen to develop all the tourism hotspots and thereby improve the tourism potential of Magadi, he said.

Adoption of Kerala’s Kutumbashree model in State

Dr Narayan has written a letter to Women and Child Welfare Department Minister Shashikala Jolle to take steps for women’s empowerment by adopting the Kerala model of Kutumbashree programme to help the Women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the State to take up poultry farming in a big way.

In his letter, the minister mentioned that the women’s SHG’s in Kerala have been successful in achieving a torn over of Rs 100 crore and pointed out that such a scheme could be adopted in the State with two lakh SHGs having a women membership of about 30 lakh.

Dr Narayan has also requested ministers Halappa Achar and Prabhu Chavan to examine the introduction of the Kutumbashree model in the State in their respective departments by coordinating with the Women’s and Child Development ministry.

The minister has also suggested that the task of distribution of eggs to children of Anganawadis and government schools could be entrusted to the women’s SHGs.

    Everyday some family or the other is committing suicide because of financial issues. A robust social security system will mitigate these, yet, the government only cares about building opulent temples. Wasting our tax money on sheer nonsense.
