Heavy rain lashes Bhatkal, hill collapses at Muttalli, four dead

Bhatkal, Aug 2: Heavy rain has been lashing Uttara Kannada district since the last 14 hours. A hill collapsed and slid on a house on Tuesday, August 2 morning at Muttalli in the taluk. Four people are feared dead.

The deceased are identified as Laxminarayana Naika (60), Laxmi Naika (45), Anantha Narayana Naika (38) and relative Praveen Balakrishna Naika (16). The bodies are yet to be recovered.

The house was completely destroyed. Rescue efforts have begun. Idols of Naga Masti temple at Bhatkal got washed away in the flood. This temple which is near the railway station is historically famous. Four to five idols of the temple got washed away.

Many people are reportedly stranded. There is traffic jam on the national highway. Houses in Chautani, Mundeli, Muttali, Downtown Area, Sultan Street, Mushma street, Khalifa street, Gosia street, and nearby areas are inundated. Also the train services are affected due to landslides.
