Bengaluru, Aug 4: Karnataka is giving priority to semi-conductor and electronics sectors, Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said here on Thursday.

Dr Narayan, who is also in charge of IT/BT and Skills Development said special investment zones have been created in Hubballi-Dharwad, Shivamogga and Mysuru.

With India accounting for having 100 crore mobile users, the minister said the State Government was encouraging industries to focus on creating digital markets for all sectors, including agriculture.

Dr Narayan said Karnataka was in the second place in the design sector in the entire world and has already taken steps to provide training to 11,000 persons. The State has been a pioneer in the innovation sector and all the facilities were part of the efforts to give a fillip to semi-conductor and electronics sectors.

Touching upon his pet theme of propagating National Education Policy, he said skills development and training were given more emphasis to meet the needs of the new generation of industries in the high-tech sector.

Dr John and Sanjay of Aerospace Electronics Hub and other senior officials of the State Government were present.
