Udupi: Padmashali Nekarara Pratistana to hold National Handloom Day on Aug 7

Udupi, Aug 4: “Padmashali Nekara Pathistana Udupi has decided to bring back 100 handloom workers to the handloom profession. It will be celebrating National Handloom Day at Kallianpur Adishakti Brahmalinga Veerabhadra temple on August 7,” said its president Rathnaker Indrali.

Speaking at a news conference held at Patrika Bhavan here today, he said that a beauty competition will also be held to introduce the quality of handloom sarees to the people.

“A discussion programme will be held for the future of tenth standard and 12th standard students with the students and the parents on that morning. Scholars Nagaraj Kateel, Dinesh Shettigar Parkala and Sadashiva Golijora will be the resource persons,” he said.

“JCI India zonal trainer Shivananda Shettigar will compere the discussions. The programme will be inaugurated by temple head Jyothiprasad Shettigar and temple mahila vedike president Shobha Jyothi Prasad Shettigar.”

Zilla panchayat chief executive Prasanna H, Udupi district additional DC Veena B N, Udupi municipal council president Sumitra R Nayak, vice president Lakshmi Manju Kota, council members Manjula V Nayak, appointed member Dinesh Pai, Kallianpur gram panchayat president Krishna Devadiga, Karnataka state handloom weavers community federation president Ragu S Shetigar, weaver’s community members, Shettigar community temple heads of sixteen temples of the tribe and presidents will take part in the programme.

The first issue of ‘Nekara Bimba’ mouthpiece of the pratistana will be released on the occasion.

Municipal council members Manjunath Manipal, organization chief secretary Narendra Shettigar Herga, vice president Sadashiva Golijora, Dattaraj Shettigar and Saroja Shettigar will be present.
