Hassan-Mangaluru railway line capacity enhanced, more trains possible

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 10: The capacity of the railway line between Mangaluru and Hassan has been enhanced in order to enable it to function as a catalyst for boosting the state's economy.

Hassan-Mangalore Rail Development Company Ltd has installed limited signal system and crossing clearance at two stations. With this, 24 trains can move on this route.

Crossing has now been permitted in Yedakumeri and Kadagaravalli stations. In the past, till the other train completed its journey, the next train could not pass it. Now, with the new signal systems, additional trains can run on the route, it is learnt.

Trains move at 30 km per hour speed between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya stations, distance between which is 55 km. At present, three passenger trains move on this route. Additional goods trains can be introduced on this route to transport fertilisers to various parts of Karnataka from Mangaluru, authorities said.

I was reading comments and want to put few points on this. I'm putting my points in a detail. As everybody knows that this line was a meter gauge and trains were stopped for gauge conversion. At that time for speeder conversion of Broad gauge PPP was formed knows as HMRDC. HMRDC will own this line till 2032 and they had put some strict terms and conditions like only 4 passenger trains can run in a day but 20 good train can run. HMRDC wanted to make max money from goods trains. At that goods traffic was high due to mines from Hospet to Mangaluru port. When the broad gauge was done HMRDC was hesitant to run passenger trains after a lot of pressure some trains started initially. SWR wanted to run more trains but HMRDC was not allowing and to break the contract they had to pay a big fine which Indian railways was not ready. Later on mines were stopped and HMRDC was having tough time for there revenue and Mallikarjun Karge who was the railway minister at that time had hectic negotiation and some deviations were given and we could see some additional day trains. Mallikarjun Karge initiation and some additional pressure from Sadanand Gowda has helped in to look into the technical aspects. SWR then sent a detailed mail to IR and hence signalling systems and cross clearance was initiated. I feel more cross clearance are required. Anyhow for the time being this is enough. Suresh Angadi gave some final touches since he is currently the Ministry of State for railways. Please let us not talk politically. Only thing work has been done and my request to Suresh Angadi for more trains from Bengaluru to Mangaluru Central and one direct train from Mangaluru Central to Bidar via Arsikere, Hubli/Hospet. We want more trains from Mangaluru to North Karnataka. Suresh Angadi too some initiation in starting a train from Mangaluru Junction to Vijayapura. Hope SWR takes initiation and SR which as usual dont have slots for trains towards Karnataka be positive this time. I'm a Train Fan

The Bengaluru - Mangaluru Passenger Train started on 8th of December 2007. The Night journey used to start from Bengaluru at 8.55pm and reach Mangaluru at 8.05am. taking almost 12 hours to travel. Even after 12 years the timing is not improved. During these 12 years many Parties ruled the State & Center. None of the Govt. taken initiative to shorten the travel time encouraging the Buss lobby to expand their business. I don't think any particular party doing good in this issue. It is like sand Mining business. All the political parties are beneficiaries.

Madam let trains begin first n continue to suit the convenience of bengaloorians.... There r very few trains running from Bangalore to Mangalore.... But Kerala has plenty of trains and all of them suiting their convenience to different parts of the country.... Don't politize everything... Train started to vijayapura from Mangalore... There were many labourers who were travelling by it . And it was cancelled because they travel by general compartment n it does not add on to the railway income ..

Talk sense if u have any ..

Enhanced capacity of Hassan - Mangaluru Railway is good news. The Problem here is the Bus Lobby. Unless & Until some one puts break on this powerful mafia, The Improved Railway system is useless for the travelers in this section.

Anna, Konkan Railway is already operating from Mangaluru Junction to Mumbai Central since 1998, albeit on single track till Roha. In regular times, there are two trains running daily
