Udupi: Sudden rain creates traffic chaos in city

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Oct 23: An unexpected and sudden downpour that lashed the city on the evening of Saturday created havoc in the city.

The hour-long rain accompanied by thunder and lightning inundated the roads. Water gushed into low lying areas.

Water from rain mixed up with drainage water at lower Parkala and caused inconvenience to the public. As work is in progress on the national highway near Indrali, vehicular movement is prohibited. This has caused traffic jams at Kalsanka, Karavali junction. Vehicles were queued up for kilometers together waiting to get the nod from the traffic policemen who too had a tough time managing the situation.

It took more than one hour for tourists to reach Manipal from Udupi. As it was a weekend, many tourists had arrived in the city which caused an increase in traffic.

The roads leading to Krishna Math and Malpe beach had dense traffic.

In indrali junction the roads are getting repaired. Home-guards & constables who are controlling traffics are so rude and harassing the two wheelers & cars by diverting the vehicles inside the small lane. Just for 50 meters they are making us travel 2kms extra. When they can allow the buses & trucks in the main road, why don't they allow the two wheelers. They are behaving like goondas.
