'Firms should create AIDS awareness among workers'

New Delhi, July 27 (IANS) Sankalp project, a government initiative for tackling the spread of HIV/AIDS, Wednesday said that industries need to focus on increasing awareness among workers about the disease.

"Industries can play an important role in educating and generating awareness among workers," said C.S. Kedar of Sankalp.

According to a report by National Aids Control Organisation, more than 90 percent HIV infections in India have been reported from the most productive age group of 15-49 years.

"The highest number of HIV cases are being reported from the working age groups. The industry can most effectively adress the issue and must take the responsibility for this," Kedar added.
