Mumbai, Nov 17: Pranjal Patil is the first visually-impaired woman of the country who cleared the IAS examination. She took the examination twice to improve her standings. While she secured 744th rank in 2016, she got a stunning 124th rank in the UPSC examination in 2017.

Pranjal was completely blind by time she reached six years of age. She hails from Ulhasnagar in the state of Maharashtra. After her elementary schooling at Kamala Mehta Dadar school for blind of the city and completed graduation from St Xavier’s College.

Pranjal obtained post-graduation degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University in international relations. She also did MPhil and PhD.

Pranjal used software that used to read the books aloud to her and grasped from this hearing. She never took any coaching. Though she was blind, she used her ability of hearing to the fullest.

Pranjal was posted in Ernakulam Kerala in 2018 after securing 124th rank in the UPSC examinations of 2017. She started off as an assistant collector and is currently serving as sub collector of Thiruvananthapuram.

Indian Railways did not hire Pranjal in their accounts department because she was visually impaired. But with her grit and determination she got into a better position.
